stepmania dynamism. An idea that's existed since *2005* and still doesn't exist in a fully tangible form as of 2012. Let's examine why that is, based on the goals list I typed up some one million years ago in StepMania time, back when theming was done with XML. By the way, if you didn't already know, Selling Out Made Simple 2 (hereafter referred to as SOMS2) is the end result of the StepMania Dynamism project. [dynamism goals and where they stand] 1) Users will be able to easily modify some elements of the theme. This has been possible for a very long time. 2) The theme will not be completely static. Working on this with the SOMS3 project, somewhat. 2a) The theme will implement different visual styles, AS ONE THEME. "no not happening SOMS2 is doing this." oh god. this is part of why the project is doomed; I have to create multiple high-quality graphics, which takes a very long time. I may have to abandon this for my sanity. 3) The theme will not be limited to one gametype. "i'd like this to happen this is a goal of moonlight." no, this is happening. it would not make any sense otherwise. 4) This is meant to be an "open" theme for any user. "I have taken major strides towards this; not a problem anymore." This is still accurate. 5) The theme will be released in a finished state at some time in the future (self-imposed limit: one year after the first alpha/public version, dynamism must be at least version 0.8.) This is the safety net I have. This is also the reason why all the current SOMS2 releases are private. Private releases do not count as "public" versions. I love loopholes. 5a) dynamism will follow the "Perfect Release" approach, using "Milestones". moonlight is using this system (somewhat?) and has taken 4 years to complete. you do the math on why I'm not using this anymore. 5b) The theme will be available for the major StepMania platforms (Windows, Linux, Mac OS X, and Xbox) You know how old this is? This mentions Xbox. StepMania 5 can't even be compiled for Xbox anymore, and we removed support for it. works cited negro dark's guide to keeping it real by stepmania theming The world's greatest guide to StepMania theming. Sadly incomplete. http://kki.ajworld.net/negrodark.txt How to Theme Like freem This is the replacement for "AJ's 'Official' Guide to StepMania Theming". It's also much better than that document, due to the experience we at the SSC have gained over the years.
